  • Dr. David Schwinghamer

Dr. Kim A. Voller

Dr. Kim Voller graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1988. Kim's work with Dr. Juergens as a student and her strong background with horses enabled her to jump right into practice at Anoka Equine. Dr. Voller also has a strong interest in reproduction and neonatal care, as well as serving as our practice anesthesiologist. Dr. Voller has been involved in the local combined training/eventing scene for many years as a competitor and now as the organizer for the Trott Brook Horse Trials. She and her husband, Dr. Kevin Voller, have three children - Brenna, Clayton, and Cole.

Dr. J.C. Thieke

J.C. Thieke graduated from the University of Minnesota Veterinary School in 1996.  He completed an equine internship in Colorado at Littleton Large Animal Clinic and then practiced in an equine clinic for two years in Sioux Falls, South Dakota before joining Anoka Equine in 1999.  His professional interests include sports medicine including lameness, surgery and dentistry.  Dr. Thieke also serves on the American Association of Equine Practitioners Dental Committee.  He and his wife Tara (a small animal veterinarian) have three children:  Grace 5, Colter 3 and Hayden 1.  They enjoy outdoor activities including camping, hunting and western performance horses.

Dr. Kevin M. Voller

Dr. Kevin graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1988, where he met his wife, Dr. Kim Voller.  Dr. Kevin worked in an equine ambulatory practice for a year before going back to the U of MN to further his training in equine surgery.  In 1992, he became partners with Dr. Tom Juergens and Dr. Kim Voller, and they made plans to build the equine hospital. Dr. Kevin enjoys having the facilities to perform nearly any type of equine surgery and lameness evaluation.  He also enjoys doing equine dentistry. In his spare time, Dr. Kevin enjoys hunting, fishing and trail riding.  He and Dr. Kim host the Trott Brook Horse Trials each fall, and he has donated many hours and resources to building the Trott Brook Farm cross country course.

Dr. Thomas D. Juergens

Dr. Juergens graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1975.  In 1978 he established Anoka Equine Veterinary Services, Ltd. as a single veterinarian practice.  The practice continued to grow, adding veterinarians until in 1993 he built the hospital and welcomed Drs. Kim and Kevin Voller as co-owners. Dr. Juergens’ main interest is reproduction and infertility.  Having worked with many national and world champion stallions and mares, he and Dr. Kim Voller developed the reproduction division of the practice to world class standards utilizing the latest technologies in stallion and mare fertility diagnosis, treatment and management. Dr. Juergens also works in Mongolia every summer with the Christian Veterinary Mission teaching equine medicine to Mongolian veterinarians.  Dr. Juergens and his wife also have a home in Montana where they spend fall and winter with family and friends hiking, camping and fly fishing.

Dr. Ingrid O. Borkoski

Dr. Ingrid Borkoski earned her veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.  She then completed a one-year internship at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in Snohomish, Washington.  She moved back to the Midwest and joined Anoka Equine in the Fall of 2000.  Ingrid has particular interest in acupuncture and reproduction. Ingrid lives in Elk River with her husband, Eric, and their two Golden Retrievers, Iris and Nellie.  She enjoys fishing, snowmobiling and hockey.

Dr. Rick S. Marion

Rick was born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas, and attended Kansas State University for seven years to get his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a Master’s degree in pathology.  After veterinary school, Rick spent three years in private mixed practice.  He returned to his academic pursuits in 1985 at the University of Minnesota, completing a three-year residency in Large Animal Surgery and two additional years as an assistant professor working in the Large Animal Clinic.  Rick then spent six years at the University of Missouri as a food animal clinician and equine ambulatory clinician. After finding moss growing on the bottom of his sneakers, Rick moved on to a private large animal practice in Stearns County, MN, and worked there for four years.  The opportunity to move down the interstate to Anoka Equine arose in 2002, and he’s been at AE since that time. Outside work, Rick enjoys daily tirades against government spending, taxation and intrusion into the lives of its citizens.

  Dr. Tracy A.  Turner

 

Dr. Tracy Turner attended veterinary school at Colorado State University, did an internship at the University of Georgia, and completed his surgical residency and M.S. at Purdue University.  In 1986, Dr. Turner became a Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons.  He has served on staff as associate professor at the University of Illinois and also at the University of Florida.  Dr. Turner was also a professor at the University of Minnesota where he served as Chief of Large Animal Surgery for three years.  His special areas of interest are equine lameness, navicular disease, orthopedics, podiatry, and back issues.  He joined Anoka Equine in February, 2004, and fits into the family very nicely. In 2004 Dr. Turner was one of 3 veterinarians inducted into the International Equine Veterinarians Hall of Fame. Dr. Turner's wife, Julie, is also a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Diplomate at the University of Minnesota. They have two sons, Tarven and Tristan. Dr. Turner is involved in eventing and horse trials in his "spare" time.

 Dr. David Schwinghamer

Dr. David Schwinghamer is a Minnesota native from the southeast Twin Cities region. He began his veterinary studies in 2000 at Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine and completed his final year at Texas A&M University, School of Veterinary Medicine. He began practicing in an ambulatory practice outside of North Branch, MN in 2004. After two years he joined a private pratice in San Antonio, TX with emphasis on surgery, emergency and referral type medicine. David and his wife Theresa have two children, Lindsay and Logan.  His primary interests are spending time with his family as well as hunting waterfowl in the fall months. He is excited to be back in Minnesota as well as eager to get to know the clients and patients of Anoka Equine Veterinary Services.

 Dr. Nadine Salomon

 Nadine moved to Minnesota in 2006 to complete a one year internship here and recently became a full time ambulatory associate with Anoka Equine. Dr. Nadine Salomon grew up near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended Penn State for her undergraduate degree, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine for her veterinary degree. In her spare time, Nadine enjoys spending time with her cats, cooking, competing in triathlons, hiking, and horseback riding.

 Dr.Todd Brokken

 Dr. Todd Brokken comes to Anoka Equine as an intern after receiving his veterinary degree from the University of Minnesota. Todd grew up surrounded by horses in the semi-rural town of Southwest Ranches near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is the third equine veterinarian in his family; his father is a long-time Thoroughbred racetrack practitioner and his brother is an equine surgeon. He completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1997 and is a very proud Gator fan. Prior to entering veterinary school, Todd spent several years as an associate at a large financial firm in both New York and Tokyo. During the summers while at veterinary school, he worked at the test barn at Canterbury Park and for Anoka Equine as a technician. Todd’s veterinary interests include lameness & surgery, reproduction, neonatology, and ambulatory practice. He and his wife Jaime enjoy spending time walking their two dogs, cooking, dining out, laughing at their crazy cat Leo, and traveling.

 Dr. Shawn Tatman

 Dr. Shawn Tatman came to Minnesota and joined Anoka Equine as an intern early in June. He is originally from Wyoming, and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Wyoming. Thereafter he moved to Texas (don't hold the accent against him) where he completed a Masters of Science followed by his veterinary degree. When time allows, he enjoys most outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and roping as well as basketball and raquetball.
