Reliable Timing, Real Results: Equine Breeding at Anoka Equine Veterinary Services
Breeding is equal parts timing, teamwork, and attention to detail. At Anoka Equine Veterinary Services, our reproduction program blends careful planning with round-the-clock vigilance—so you can make reproductive choices for your horse with confidence, whether you’re breeding a proven performance mare or starting a young stallion.
Mare Reproduction
In-house breeding program: Successful conception starts with precise timing. Our treatment plans include intensive ultrasound monitoring throughout the day and night to track follicular development, manage ovulation, and schedule insemination at the optimal moment. We coordinate seamlessly whether you’re using cooled or frozen semen.
Targeted diagnostics and therapies: To set mares up for success—and to troubleshoot when conception is difficult—we offer comprehensive reproductive services:
- Uterine culture and cytology
- Small-volume uterine lavage
- Uterine biopsies for breeding prognosis
- Hormone panels
- Embryo flushing
We’ll review findings with you in plain language and design a plan that fits your timeline and budget.
Stallion Services
From training to shipment, our stallion program emphasizes safety, quality, and clear communication.
- Semen collection with on-site quality assessment (motility, concentration)
- Frozen semen storage in monitored tanks
- Semen shipment arranged to meet mare ovulation timing
- Phantom training to develop reliable collection behavior
- Breeding soundness exam to document fertility and health
Our team keeps you informed at every step—collection results, doses prepared, and delivery logistics—so your breeding partners can plan with precision.
What to Expect
Before breeding:
We begin with a thorough consultation to understand your goals, review history, and outline a calendar. For mares, this includes baseline ultrasound and, when indicated, culture/cytology, biopsy, and hormone testing. For stallions, we recommend a breeding soundness exam and, if needed, phantom training.
During the cycle:
Mares in our in-house program receive frequent ultrasounds—day and night—to pinpoint ovulation and time insemination. We coordinate semen ordering/shipping and keep you updated in real time.
After breeding:
We schedule pregnancy checks and discuss next steps, including twin reduction if needed and ongoing mare management. If you’re planning for foaling, we can connect your program with our Internal Medicine & Hospitalization services for a smooth handoff when the time comes.
