Student Opportunities
Veterinary Internship Program
Anoka Equine is pleased to provide a structured and broad-based internship program that provides new graduate veterinarians with the opportunity to develop clinical and client interaction skills that will serve them well in a practice environment or a residency program. Our interns are exposed to diverse and challenging cases as well as everyday care, a variety of horse disciplines, and primary case management. Providing mentorship and practical hands-on experience are at the very core of the internship.
Interns are exposed to all facets of veterinary medicine, surgery, reproduction, anesthesia, and lameness. The first 2-3 months are divided into time spent assisting the veterinarians in the hospital and out in the field. Following that period, we feel our interns are able to start take on their own ambulatory calls during the day as well as emergency time on-call. Throughout the internship the interns are still partially scheduled in the clinic where they are able to participate in detailed lameness cases, surgery and intensive care cases.
It is strongly suggested that you complete an externship prior to applying for the internship. To apply for our 2025-2026 internship position please submit a cover letter, resume or curriculum vitae and 3 letters of reference. The deadline for applications is October 31st. 2025. The selection process will be completed by November 7, 2025 and all applicants will receive notification.

Veterinary Student Externship Program
Anoka Equine offers externship positions to veterinary students throughout the year. Each day the students are scheduled to follow one of our practitioners on their daily routine and experience life as a veterinarian in the upper Midwest. Our externs have ample opportunity to come into hands-on contact with real life situations.
Successful applicants for our internship come from those who have spent time with us as externs. We do accept 1st and 2nd year students as externs with preference in scheduling being given to 3rd and 4th years. Housing can also be arranged for students coming from out of state.

Job Shadow Opportunities
Are you curious about what a day in equine veterinary medicine is really like? We’d love to welcome you for a job shadow experience!
While we’re open to anyone interested in learning more about equine care, we do ask that you have some previous experience with horses for everyone’s safety and comfort. During your visit, you’ll get an inside look at our daily rhythm, from routine treatments to unexpected emergencies and even the occasional surgery.
This is an observation-only experience, but we encourage you to ask questions throughout the day. Our team is passionate about education, teamwork, and excellence, and we’re always excited to share what we do and why we do it.
We offer job shadows Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Please note that all applicants must complete a prescreening before scheduling.
If you’re ready to learn, observe, and see how our values come to life in every patient we care for, we’d love to hear from you!
